I am currently typing this on a word document, sitting on a massive grey sofa that, by all laws of physics, should not be in this room.
I remember the day my girlfriend and I found it at Costco. Looking at the L-shape and the narrow dimensions of our hallway, I knew it was a mathematical mismatch. I suggested we measure the door frames and return later, but her excitement for this specific piece was infectious. In that moment, I chose her happiness over my own logic and stepped back.
When the delivery arrived, reality set in. To make it work, we had to get creative: we unscrewed the front door from its frame and “aggressively jiggled” the bulk of the sofa through the gap. Then came the true test: nineteen flights of stairs and a narrow landing.
As we hauled that weight upward, I felt a flash of regret for not being more persuasive at the store. I knew I was right about the measurements, but seeing her face when it was finally unpacked—smelling that “new furniture” scent—changed the perspective.
